Last week, we were most honoured to have Anthony Wong Yiu-Ming, renowned Canto-pop singer-songwriter and founding member of LGBT group BigLove Alliance, joining us at our monthly meeting. Anthony (better known as “Ming Gor”), as an individual performer and also as the lead vocalist of “Tat Ming Pair”, was best known for the messages in his music, which boldly touched upon the socio-political scene in Hong Kong before and after the 1997 sovereignty handover, and also for his participation in the Umbrella Movement. At the sharing, Ming Gor walked down with us his memory lane, especially the social events which inspired his music and political sensitivity, the parameter changes in music performance in mainland China before and after the Umbrella Movement, his personal account of his coming out as well as his views on the LGBT rights movement in Hong Kong.
The sharing was received with overwhelming response and Ming Gor heartily answered various questions from the floor, one after another. Meanwhile, our convenor Chris Ng, who has been an avid fan of Tat Ming pair since its inception in 1986, took the opportunity to show off his collection of Tat Ming / Ming Gor music records, which added so much fun to the guest sharing.
